John Denver was niet alleen een geweldige zanger, gitarist, en songschrijver, hij was een gepolijste en sublieme performer. 'An Evening With JD' werd in 1974 'LIVE' opgenomen in het Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, Californië. Alle nummers van het opzwepende "Farewell Andromeda" tot "Take Me Home, Country Roads", de baanbrekende country-pophit die hem op het publieke podium lanceerde, zijn van zeldzame schoonheid. Zijn geliefde staat Colorado adopteerde "Rocky Mountain High" als staatslied in 2007.
