In 2021 is het 50 jaar geleden dat componisten en producers Kenny Gamble en Leon Huff het eerste album uitbrachten van Bill Paul “Going East” op hun legendarische label Philadelphia International Records. De Philly Soul hits bestormden daarna de hitlijsten van de jaren 70 met acts als THE THREE DEGREES, BILLY PAUL, THE O’JAYS, LOU RAWLS, HAROLD MELVIN & THE BLUE NOTES, PEOPLE’S CHOICE en TEDDY PENDERGRASS.
Gamble & Huff schreven bovendien onvergetelijke klassiekers als “Dirty Ol’ Man”, “Me And Mrs. Jones”, “Back Stabbers”, “You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine” en “Do It Anyway You Wanna”. Ook was PIR zeer betrokken bij de opruimacties in de Amerikaanse ghetto’s o.s. door de hit “Let’s Clean Up The Ghetto” waarop alle artiesten van het label meezongen. De huisband van Philadelphia International Records MFSB (Mother, Father, Sister, Brother) kreeg ook onverwacht veel succes met haar albums en hits als “TSOP (The Sound Of Philadelphia)” en “The Zip”. MFSB stond daarmee aan de bakermat van de Disco.
Al deze hits en nog veel meer staan op de LP en CD “Philly Soul” uitgebracht ter gelegenheid van 50 jaar Philadelphia International Records.
