Many believers struggle with assurance of salvation, tending to approach obedience to God out of either guilt or legalism. We exist to display God's glory, declare God's gospel, and disciple for God's Great Commission. Instead of embracing these truths, many Christians have believed the lie that their identity in Christ does not affect how they live their lives in obedience to him. The gospel tells us that ""being"" (identity) comes before ""doing"" (obedience). This lack of understanding our gospel identity frequently results in either legalistic pride or frustrating guilt. The purpose of this book is to help believers understand their identity in the three persons of the Trinity and then joyfully serve God with gospel obedience. The gospel indicatives in the Bible serve as the fountain and power for obeying the moral imperatives in the Bible. The gospel roots our assurance of salvation and motivation to obey God in our identity, not in moralism, which elevates our performance instead of exalting the finished work of Christ. ""Read this book and learn from this brother how to live victoriously by rooting your life in the image of your heavenly Father, the gospel of your Savior, the strong help of your Comforter."" --Jim Shaddix, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary ""This is a breakthrough resource. I hope to put this book in the hands of church members for years to come."" --Hershael W. York, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary ""In a world that is confused about identity, Sean clearly articulates the identity every Christ follower has in the Trinity. Throughout this book, you will see the compelling themes of God's grace and the gospel, and how they drastically change our lives through the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit."" --Nathan Lorick, Colorado Baptist General Convention ""This book provides a rich theological feast! Taking a Reformed trajectory yet drawing abundantly from the depths of Scripture, Sean grounds his idea of Christian identity in the Triune nature of God. . . . Here is a wonderful example of faithful, biblical proclamation and practical, theological discipleship."" --Earl Waggoner, Colorado Christian University ""In this outstanding book, Sean Cole does a masterful job of helping us not only understand our true identity as believers, but what it looks like to faithfully live out of this identity with wonder and joy for the glory of God. This is a book that will sharpen you, challenge you, and ultimately encourage you to more deeply experience life as it is meant to be through the power of the gospel."" --Mark Hallock, Lead Pastor, Calvary Church, Englewood, Colorado Sean Cole is lead pastor at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Sterling, Colorado. He has a doctor of ministry in expository preaching from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a master of divinity from Gateway Seminary.
