In most parts of the world people dislike bats. This attitude may be accredited to the fact that bats are tiny creatures and strange to humans both behaviorally and morphologically. Their physical appearance and aesthetic value does not evoke any biophilic response which normally is perceived for other animals having large size and neotenic features. The other factors that can appeal to humans such as similarity to humans, shape, type of locomotion, posture, surface texture, and color are also absent in bats. In Pakistan bats are considered loathsome and fearsome, which is the major hurdle in the conservation of these environment friendly creatures. Dr. Arshad Javid is amongst the few in Pakistan who are making efforts to create awareness among local masses about the ecological role of bats.
