English summar: For some time now, the German-speaking countries have been experiencing a general boom in the history of universities, but particularly in the history of individual subjects. Other Austrian universities have long been in possession of monographs on the history of the subject of history, but not the 'Capitals of Europe University of Vienna'. The volume centres on the gradual proliferation and specialisation of chairs, seminars and institutes for the study of history taking place along with the life, work and impacts of their professors. This expansion has been going on since the last quarter of the 18th, but particularly since the middle of the 19th century. Some sections are moreover devoted to the beginning of women's access to universities, the Academic Association of German Historians in Vienna, Viennese historians under National Socialism and the denazification and restoration post-1945. German description: Seit geraumer Zeit boomen nicht nur im deutschsprachigen Raum die Universitatsgeschichte im Allgemeinen und die Geschichte einzelner Facher im Besonderen. Zur Historie des Faches Geschichte an den anderen Universitaten osterreichs existieren bereits Monographien, nicht hingegen fur die 'Hauptstadtuniversitat' Wien. Im Zentrum des Bandes stehen die allmahliche Vermehrung und Spezialisierung der historischen Lehrstuhle, Seminare und Institute seit dem letzten Viertel des 18., vor allem aber seit der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts, sowie Leben, Werk und Wirkung der Professoren. Eigene Abschnitte sind daruber hinaus den Anfangen des Frauenstudiums, dem Akademischen Verein deutscher Historiker in Wien, den Wiener Historikern in der NS-Zeit sowie der Entnazifizierung und Restauration nach 1945 gewidmet.
