English summary: The sculpture gallery of Newby Hall ranks among the most prominent collections of Antiquities in private ownership. It has remained nearly intact in the way it was first set up in 1764. Its standing is mainly owed to the high quality of the 69 statues, busts and reliefs in comprises of. Although the significance of the statues has been emphasized in archaeological literature since the 19th century, an adequate judgment of the pieces is made possible by this new catalogue only now. The publication treats 137 antique objects in Newby Hall and in seven further English collections in private ownership. Until now, some of them have been published just in an unsatisfactory way, some have not been published at all. The present monograph presents for the first time a photographic documentation of all pieces. Special focus is put on the provenance of the objects which was traceable in many cases. A thorough introduction therefore deals with the history of the acquisitions and the concept of presentation in the 18th century. German description: Die Skulpturengalerie in Newby Hall gehort zu den bedeutendsten Antikensammlungen in Privatbesitz. Ihr Rang grundet sich vor allem auf die Qualitat der hier zusammengetragenen 69 Statuen, Busten und Reliefs. Die Bedeutung der Statuen ist in der archaologischen Literatur seit dem 19. Jahrhundert betont worden, doch wird eine zuverlassige Beurteilung der Stucke erst durch den vorliegenden Katalog ermoglicht. Newby Hall gilt zu Recht als Muster einer englischen Antikensammlung des 18. Jahrhunderts; sie ist in ihrem Aufstellungskontext seit 1764 weitgehend intakt geblieben. Eine ausfuhrliche Einleitung beschaftigt sich daher mit der Erwerbungsgeschichte und mit dem Aufstellungskonzept des 18. Jahrhunderts. Diese Publikation enthalt in erster Linie die wissenschaftliche Erschliessung der 137 Antiken in Newby Hall und in sieben weiteren englischen Privatsammlungen. Sie sind zum Teil bisher nur ungenugend vorgelegt worden, zum Teil uberhaupt unveroffentlicht geblieben. Dem Ziel einer Grundlagenpublikation entsprechend bietet die vorliegende Monographie erstmals eine photographische Dokumentation aller Stucke, die auf den Fotokampagnen des Kolner Forschungsarchivs fur Antike Plastik basiert. Ebenso wichtig ist die sorgfaltige Darstellung von Erhaltungszustand und modernen Erganzungen, die in der bisherigen Literatur z. T. kontrovers beurteilt worden sind. Die einzelnen Katalogtexte geben zudem eine begrundete Datierung sowie eine Einordnung und Interpretation der Skulpturen. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit galt der Frage nach der Provenienz der Stucke, die sich in zahlreichen Fallen klaren liess.
