However, this secularization has certain causes and is not an inevitable fate. Rather, there are ambiguous indications that spirituality is taking on more individual forms that are linked to inner experiences. This situation represents a challenge for theology and the churches. In the Christian tradition, spirituality refers to the Holy Spirit. This topic needs to be addressed. Similarly, churches are becoming more pluralistic and flexible without giving up their spiritual and theological backbone. This book therefore combines sociological analyses, theological studies and practical proposals to provide answers to these questions.
