Description

The world we live in has become completely out of balance in the face of multiple crises and the loss of a common space in which bodies can resonate with each other.Freeing the Voices is about getting in tune with the world (again). The voice is a tool for healing, connection and resistance - a means of making ourselves heard. At the same time, it is about listening to ourselves and to others, to human and non-human voices. Just as we express ourselves through our voice, listening means caring and paying attention to the other - but it can also mean obedience to authority. Our voices are grounded, yet at the same time related to many different contexts.Although there is no such thing as our own authentic voice, the liberation of our individual and collective voice is the horizon of the works presented - from Marina Abramovic's human scream to the barely perceptible voice of a mosquito in Tao G. Vrhovec Sambolec's work. Liberating our voices does not mean finding a self-hood to which our voice perfectly corresponds. What we really liberate with the voice is our relationship to the world. With works by Noor Abed, Marina Abramovic, Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Babi Badalov, selma banich, CO2... a couple of artists, VALIE EXPORT, Farhad Farzali, Essa Grayeb, Ida Hirsenfelder, Saodat Ismailova, Anna Jermolaewa, Mikhail Karikis, Anton Kats, Belinda Kazeem-Kaminski, Brandon LaBelle & Octavio Camargo, Katalin Ladik, Lucia Nimcová, Lala Rascic, Antoni Rayzhekov, Gerhard Rühm, Selma Selman, SKART & NONpractical Women, Mladen Stilinovic, Irena Z. Tomazin, Nora Turato, Tao G. Vrhovec Sambolec.
