The doorbell rang, interrupting her solitude. Rachel set down her wine glass and made her way to the door, her heart fluttering with the excitement of the unknown. On her doorstep stood a group of burly, sweat-soaked men in hard hats and work boots. They were the construction crew that had been working on the house next door for weeks. Rachel had noticed them before, their rough hands and muscular forearms flexing as they hammered and sawed away, their deep voices echoing through the stillness of the afternoon. Today, however, they weren't here to work on the neighbor's house. They were here for Rachel, summoned by a text from her husband with a simple message: "Come over when you're done for the day.
