Late summer in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Expensive cars with Florida plates clog the roads, and the students at nearby Appalachian State have departed for the summer. Bim Mayer and Hank Johnson are enjoying a lull between missing-person cases while they soak up some sun in Boone, North Carolina.
