Description

This magazine is published twice a year by The Midhurst Society. It includes articles of historical interest, details of public talks, and occasional book reviews, poems, and quizzes. Primarily, it presents updates on news items that affect the lives of the people of Midhurst and surrounding area. The Society is active in projects and campaigns that will help make Midhurst a better place to live, work and enjoy. This issue includes original pieces of writing covering H G Wells as a schoolboy in Midhurst; a history of archery and a look at a Midhurst archery club; the art of locating deep sea wrecks - from Midhurst!; the origins of the Park House Hotel in Bepton; the story of Midhurst Junction Railway; and an insight into the creation of the Blue Bell Community Hub in Cocking. There is a feature on local writer Sharon Watters, and a poem dedicated to the memory of Terence Bernard Guy Hanlon. Pieces by regular contributors include a look at the church bells of Midhurst by Bridget Howard and a walk in Chithurst and Hammer Wood by Richard Williamson. A special article by local councillor Steve Morley looks at the issue of parking and traffic flow in Midhurst. Plus a brief look at the projects, campaigns and planning issues that The Midhurst Society have been involved with over the last six months.
