English Summary: In the name of the popes, letters were written, privileges issued, council records prepared. But how strong was the production of these writings in the 9th century institutionalized? Did the popes have a law firm? Did they keep records for safekeeping the sent letters? Where was the papal archive located and how was it organized? The author explores these questions, often questioning the premises of previous research and examining in detail the tradition and formal design of the documents. The investigation period covers the Carolingian period in its high and late stages. Treated are, inter alia, the popes Leo III. (795-816), the coroner of Charlemagne, Nicholas I (858-867) and John VIII (872-882), of whom numerous writings are preserved throughout the Orbis latinus. German Description: Im Namen der Papste wurden Briefe geschrieben, Privilegien ausgegeben, Konzilsakten angefertigt. Doch wie stark war die Produktion dieser Schriften bereits im 9. Jahrhundert institutionalisiert? Verfugten die Papste uber eine Kanzlei? Fuhrten sie Register zur Aufbewahrung der ausgesandten Schreiben? Wo war das papstliche Archiv verortet, und wie war es organisiert? Die Autorin geht diesen Fragen nach, hinterfragt dabei vielfach die Pramissen der bisherigen Forschung und untersucht detailliert die uberlieferung und formale Gestaltung der Schriftstucke. Der Untersuchungszeitraum umfasst die Karolingerzeit in ihrer Hoch- und Spatphase. Behandelt werden unter anderem die Papste Leo III. (795-816), der Koronator Karls des Groaen, Nikolaus I. (858-867) und Johannes VIII. (872-882), von denen zahlreiche Schreiben in den gesamten Orbis latinus erhalten sind.
