Description

The Drapier's Letters is a collection of political pamphlets written by the famous Irish author and satirist, Jonathan Swift. Originally published in 1724, the letters were written in response to the Irish government's attempt to introduce a new copper coinage that would have greatly benefited the English merchants at the expense of the Irish people. Swift, writing under the pseudonym of M.B. Drapier, used his wit and satire to rally the Irish people against the proposed coinage and to expose the corruption and greed of the English government. The letters were so effective that the coinage was eventually withdrawn, and Swift became a hero to the Irish people. This 1903 edition of The Drapier's Letters includes a preface by the editor, notes on the text, and an appendix of related documents. It is a must-read for anyone interested in Irish history, political satire, or the works of Jonathan Swift. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
