English summary: In these collected essays the emeritus chair holder of Christian archaeology and art history at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nurnberg (born 1932 in Leipzig) considers the question of the material manifestation of the Christian faith in the area of intersection of the science of art and theology. At the same time these essays provide insight into the manifold research focuses of the author which range from the art history of late antiquity and Byzantine art history to Protestant Iconography and the history of protestant church architecture from the sixteenth century until to the present day. This includes also reflections on the relationship between contemporary art and Christian faith and on protestant paramentics.
