Former Bow Street Runner, Cordell Steele, decided to strike out on his own as a private inquiry agent. He wanted to make his own rules, rather than follow them, driven by the personal ghosts of his past. When a series of murders starts to target young actresses, he offers his services whether they are wanted or not. He knows that these innocent women are the only chance they have to snuff out this killer because Cordell has the skills and the courage to do whatever it takes to solve a case.

Aislynn Sims is a rising actress and she's not about to let a slight setback keep her from doing what she loves. She has worked hard to get where she is and the alternative is not something she wants to contemplate. If she gives up the stage, she would be forced to sell her personal services at one of the many brothels in London to survive and that is not an option.

Sparks immediately fly between her and Cordell the instant they meet—in more ways than one. He wants to keep her safe while she is determined not to let anything destroy her career, including fear. However, when she is targeted as the next victim on the list, Aislynn has to decide if she is going to allow herself to become the damsel in distress that Cordell seems to want her to be, or if they are going to work together to stop this dangerous threat.
