De vub is de enige Nederlandstalige universiteit met een campus die naam waardig: een universiteitsterrein met aula’s, leslokalen, laboratoria en woningen voor studenten. Deze omgeving zorgt voor een unieke sfeer. Deels wordt deze sfeer mee bepaald door de bijzondere en gevarieerde architectuur van de campussites.

Met het boek Campusarchitectuur sinds 1970, het eerste deel uit de reeks ‘Bouwen aan de Vrije Universiteit Brussel’, wordt een overzicht gegeven van de verschillende architecturale stijlen die de sites Etterbeek en Jette markeren. Architecten zoals Renaat Braem, Willy Van Der Meeren, Baro, Conix, Cnops, e.a. gaven er vorm aan. Deze uitgave mag als een ijkpunt beschouwd worden, met een eigenzinnige kijk op het verleden en een blik op de toekomst van het gebouwen- patrimonium van de vub.

Het is een blijvende herinnering voor al wie in deze gebouwen vertoeft en vertoefd heeft en een must voor iedereen die Brussel en architectuur genegen is.

The vub is the only Dutchspeaking university with a campus worthy of the name: a university site with lecture halls, classrooms, laboratories and housing for students. This environment creates a unique atmosphere. This atmosphere is partly also determined by the distinctive and varying architecture of the campus sites.

The book Campus Architecture since 1970, the first part of the series ‘Building the Vrije Universiteit Brussel’, gives an overview of the different architectural styles that mark the sites of Etterbeek and Jette, realized by architects such as Renaat Braem, Willy Van Der Meeren, Baro, Conix, Cnops, a.o. This publication can therefore be considered a benchmark, with a wayward view of the past and a glimpse into the future of the architectural patrimony of the university.

It is a lasting memory for all those who spend or spent many a day in these buildings and a must-have for anyone with a warm heart for Brussels and architecture.

La vub est la seule université néerlandophone avec un campus digne de ce nom: un terrain universitaire avec des salles de conférence, salles de classe, des laboratoires et des logements pour les étudiants. Cet environnement crée une atmosphère extraordinaire. En partie, cette atmosphère a également été déterminée par l’architecture singulière et changeante des sites de campus.

Le livre L’architecture du campus depuis 1970, la première partie de la série ‘Construire la Vrije Universiteit Brussel’, offre une synthèse des différents styles architecturaux qui marquent les sites d’Etterbeek et de Jette, réalisés par e.a. Renaat Braem, Willy Van Der Meeren, Baro, Conix, Cnops… Cette publication peut être considérée comme un point de référence, avec une vue rebelle sur le passé et un aperçu de l’avenir du patrimoine architectural de la vub.

C’est un souvenir mémorable pour ceux qui demeurent ou ont demeuré dans ces bâtiments et un ‘must’ pour chacun qui est attaché à l’architecture et à Bruxelles.
