On August 1, 1943, 178 U.S. Army B-24 heavy bombers left the Libyan desert on a mission. But that mission took a wrong turn--literally. Heading One-Two-Seven refers to the ﬁnal turn of the ill-fated attack on the Axis reﬁneries in Ploesti, Romania, during World War II.

This historical novel not only describes the raid but also addresses the players and intrigue on both sides. The Allied powers were uniﬁed against Nazi Germany, but they also had their own agendas, all of which contributed to the climate that led to the raid on Ploesti.

Allied and Axis political leaders made decisions that reﬂected their view of a postwar world. Military leaders translated those visions into a strategy and the tactics to carry it out. And the husbands and sons of a generation--"the greatest generation"--made it come to pass. Follow along as Heading One-Two-Seven tells the story of some of those men on the mission of their lives.

Paul Hagan was born and raised in Missouri, was educated in Iowa, and has spent most of his adult life in Indiana. He is married and the father of two boys.

After he graduated from Drake University with a degree in journalism, Paul spent ﬁve years creating documentaries and producing sports programs on topics ranging from auto racing to college sports. He then joined the Indiana University School of Medicine, eventually becoming the associate director of the Ofﬁce of Visual Media. He garnered seven Telly Awards as well as a half dozen other national awards. He also earned his master's degree from Butler University.

After retirement from Indiana University, Paul started writing Heading One-Two-Seven, but a year into retirement, he started to teach public speaking at Ivy Tech Community College. He set aside writing, but his voice returned, he developed a style, and he gained conﬁdence. He is currently working on his second book.
