Description

Born in Florence in 1943, Paolo Staccioli has risen to fame on the international art scene thanks, in particular, to the beauty and originality of the ceramic work with its strong metallic effect that has been shown in one-man exhibitions in a number of different cities and countries, from Paris to New York and from Italy to China. The exhibition hosted in the Horne Museum aims to provide the visitor with a retrospective view of his artistic output over the past twenty years while simultaneously displaying some of his latest work, here on public view for the very first time. Though he has never forgotten his love of ceramics, Paolo Staccioli has more recently begun to address the production of large statues in bronze, achieving remarkable results and confirming his place as one of the most interesting contemporary artists on the scene today. The sculptures on display benefit from a unique setting within the normal visit to the museum, thus allowing us to witness a genuine dialogue between old and new, and to directly and consciously compare the master's world of Warriors and Travellers with the world of battles, knights and saints that populates the works of Herbert Horne's original collection. Italian and English text.
