Power and the Powers is divided into three parts. Part 1 addresses the many powers that oppress; part 2, the powers that stand with the oppressed against the oppressors; and part 3, God as the one Power who overcomes all others. This is an arbitrary business, to say the least, for Walter Brueggemann has never really been concerned about the lowercase-p powers. Yes, all the chapters address current events and the underlying spiritual powers at work within them. But the focus here, as in all of Brueggemann's work, is the one Power before whom every knee will bow and every tongue confess.
