Crime and Punishment is a novel written by Fyodor Dostoevsky and first published in 1866. The story is set in St. Petersburg, Russia, and follows the life of Rodion Raskolnikov, a poor ex-student who decides to commit a murder in order to prove his theory that some people are ""extraordinary"" and have the right to break the law.
