From the Industrial Revolution onwards, the energy has increasingly turned into the driving force of the development. The United States, which were importers of energy for many years, have become an exporter power, that soon will be equal to Saudi Arabia and Russia. So now we have new issues, like an useful breath of air for the slow recovery of Europe, but also additional uncertainties for the economic and political endurance of nations that live on the export of gas and oil, such as Russia, Iran and Venezuela. This volume, which contains the proceedings of the seminar promoted in 2014 by the Fondazione Spadolini, focuses on those issues, analyzing especially three aspects: the superimposition of a religious component to the energy problems, their impact on the climate question, the role of Italy and Europe.
